PARISH PRIEST
The Parish Priest is the proper Pastoral Guide of the parish entrusted to him. He exercises this pastoral care of the community entrusted to him under the authority of the Diocesan Bishop, whose Ministry of Christ the Parish Priest is called to share, so that for this community he may carry out the offices of teaching, sanctifying and ruling with the cooperation of other priests or deacons and with the assistance of lay members of Christ's faithful.
The Parish Priest becomes so through a Letter of Appointment from the local Bishop. All this is then transformed into a celebration called "Induction" during which the new Parish Priest is formally presented to the Parish in a liturgical context, and both he and the people are reminded of their respective responsibility, together, before God to serve Christ in his Church, and by their holiness and the example of their lives, individually and as a local community, to promote the mission of the Lord Jesus Christ.
